Questions & Answers
How many treatments will I need?
It varies from person to person, depending on your hair and skin colour. During your consultation, the practitioner will be able to tell you more accurately but on average you’ll need a minimum of 6 treatments. Once the initial treatment period is complete you may have to come back occasionally for a top up.
How long does each treatment take?
It depends on the size of the area to be treated. Again, during your consultation your practitioner will be able to tell you more accurately, but to give you an idea, a small area such as the upper lip would take about 30 minutes, The actual lasering is 3-5 minutes.
Can I still remove hair between treatments?
Yes, you can shave or trim hair. However, you shouldn’t pluck, use depilatory creams (unless discussed with your practitioner), or wax as these remove hair from within the follicle.
Does it hurt?
Most people tolerate the treatment very well likening it to having an elastic band pinged against the skin. However, you should bear in mind that some people are more sensitive than others.
What precautions do I need to take before treatment?
You shouldn’t bleach, use depilatory creams (unless discussed with your practitioner), wax or pluck your hair.
You need to avoid the sun and sunbeds for 4-6 weeks before and during treatment and use a sunscreen of SPF15 or higher. If you have a suntan you won’t be treated until your tan has faded.
Are there any side effects?
Some parts of your body are more sensitive than others and, after laser treatment, may look red and ‘goosebumpy’. This will go down within a few hours. In some cases, the skin can either become darker or lighter.
You can help minimise these effects by avoiding sun exposure for at least 4 weeks prior to and during treatment and also using a sunscreen of SPF15 or higher throughout the course.
In extremely rare cases blistering may occur.
If you are concerned about any of these just ask the nurse for more information at your consultation.
Lasers have been used in the medical profession for 10 years and no long term side effects have been reported.
